Intimate Big Sur Elopement // Big Sur Elopement Photographers // Jake & Haley

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I am SO proud of how flexible my 2020 couples have been. If there is anything this year has taught me, it is the beauty of elopements and small weddings. One of the benefits of elopements and small weddings is that the stress levels come WAY. DOWN.

Does the stress go away completely? No. There is still planning involved, but going smaller means the day slows way down and allows you more time to breathe, and actually pause to take in the moments happening around you. I firmly believe that as a vendor who you will be spending 90% of the day with – it’s my job to not just take pictures, but also facilitate moments where you are able to really take everything in. I know it’s IMPOSSIBLE to remember EVERYTHING from your wedding day, but as a person whose job is to preserve memories, I would be doing you a disservice if all I did was pull you in a million different directions just to take pictures so that we can move on to the next activity.

Part of what makes that possible is that strict timelines are no longer weighing down on you. Again, logistically having some sort of plan for the day is still important OF COURSE, but there is less pressure to conform to a certain timeframe because there are less people that require your attention 😉 AND you have the freedom to spend MORE time with those closest to you in attendance, instead of feeling like you have to rush to see everyone the entire day/night.

Another thing that I am a firm believer in is that having more time is NEVER a bad thing. I have never EVER heard a couple tell me that they wished they didn’t have so much down time or that they wished that time could have passed faster. I have only ever been told that they valued having moments to breathe, look around, and take it all in. It’s hard to have more time with a more traditionally sized wedding both financially but also logistically because of what that would entail. But go smaller, and you have more freedom to make that decision based on what timeframe is most valuable to you (which I help you figure out during the inquiry process) PLUS fun fact: having more time makes your photographer more creative because we feel like we can actually CREATE, not rush.

Jake and Haley’s intimate elopement shots are such a great example of the beauty of slowing down. I loved being able to spend such an extended amount of time with them in a DREAM location like Big Sur. We took our time composing images that tell their unique story and highlight their timeless love for each other.
